Filipino nurse Edz Ello arrested, charged in Singapore

The Pinoy nurse who was dismissed for mocking Singaporeans in Facebook was arrested and charged in Singapore on Tuesday, April 7.

Ed Mundsel Bello Ello, who used Edz Ello profile name in social media, was charged in court with 2 counts of sedition , and another 3 charges for giving false information to the police during investigation.

The Filipino nurse who used to work in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) allegedly made derogatory comments posted in Facebook which include calling Singaporean 'loosers' and 'Stinkaporeans'.

"Now the Singaporeans are loosers in their own country, we take their jobs, their women, their future, and soon evict all SG loosers out of their own country hahaha. The best part, I will be praying that disastors strike Singapore and more Singaporeans die than I will celebrate. REMEMBER PINOY BETTER AND STRONGER THAN STINKAPOREANS."

The post went viral on social media especially in the Lion City as it incited hate among races.

He initially told the police officers that he was not responsible for the hateful comments, and that his Facebook account had been hacked.

Singapore Police Force said in a statement that it "takes a stern view of acts that could threaten social harmony in Singapore."

"Any person who posts remarks online that could cause ill-will and hostility between the different races or communities in Singapore will be firmly dealt with in accordance with the law," it added.

Under the Sedition Act of Singapore, anyone found guilty of promoting feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races or classes of the population of Singapore shall be liable, on conviction for a first offence, to a fine of up to S$5,000 or a jail term of up to three years, or both.
