5th Professional Summit tackles new CPD Law

The Philippine Association of the Professional Regulatory Board Members Inc. (PAPRB) in cooperation with the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) conducted the 5th Philippine Professional Summit at Fiesta Pavilion, Manila Hotel last October 27, 2016.


Among other things, the Summit with the theme, “Professionals Going Global: Skills Mobility in the ASEAN and Beyond” aims to inform the professionals about the Continuing Professional Development Act of 2016 (R.A. 10912) and its impact on practice, regulation and related activities.

Program Manager of CPD Program Management Committee and Chair of CPD Council on Accountancy Mr. Gerard B. Sanvictores, CPA, discussed the effects of the new CPD Law on the practice of Professionals. His presentation was followed by an Open Forum addressing questions and taking suggestions for CPD Council to consider as they continue to work on the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR’s).

Representatives of Philippine Nursing Association were present in the Summit and disclosed that there are some proposals on the implementation of the requirements stated in the CPD law.




The suggested transition period on the CPD unit requirements for PRC ID renewal of professionals with required 45 units (such as nurses) are as follows:


  • January-June 2017 - 0 unit
  • July-December 2017 - 15 units
  • 2018 - 30 units
  • 2019 - 45 units
  • 2020 onwards - 45 units





Professional Regulatory Boards and their CPD Councils are still working on the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR’s) of the CPD Law.

The Summit was attended by over four hundred delegates composed of PRC Officials, Professional Regulatory Boards and professionals in the field of Business, Education, Social Work, Engineering, Technology, Medical and Health. [via PRC Website]
