Filipina nurse charged in London over botched blood transfusion

A Filipino nurse working in London was charged for allegedly giving the wrong blood type which resulted to death of his 75-year-old patient.



UK news site Express reported that 48-year-old Lea Ledesma of Stevenage, Hertfordshire was accused of causing the death of a patient named Ali Huseyin by administering a wrong blood transfusion, causing a fatal reaction.

Mr. Huseyin was being treated at the Heart Hospital in central London, and died on May 2014.




During a hearing at the Southwark Crown Court, Ledesma denied that she "breaching her duty so seriously it amounts to negligence" as alleged in the complaint.

She was granted unconditional bail until her trial in July.
