DOH: Filipina nurse from Saudi infected with MERS-CoV

The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed that a 32-year-old Filipina nurse from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia tested positive for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus (MERS-CoV).

In a press conference on Wednesday, DOH said that the patient is a 32-year-old nurse who arrived from Saudi together with her husband via Saudia flight 860 on February 1.

"May isang pasyenteng na-admit sa Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM). Isang 32-year-old nurse na galing Saudi Arabia ang nakaramdam ng lagnat, pananakit ng katawan, ubo at hirap ng paghinga – mga sintomas na tugma sa isang pasyenteng may MERS-CoV," said DOH in a statement.

She was not detected by thermal scanners in the airport because she did not manifest any MERS-CoV symptoms upon her arrival, the Health agency added.

The nurse is now confined at the RITM in Muntinlupa City. World Health Organization (WHO) & DOH are closely monitoring her immediate family, observing the incubation period set on MERS patient.

They are also tracing the 225 passengers of Saudia Airlines flight 860 who arrived in Manila last February 1 with the Filipino MERS patient.
