Filipina nurse from Saudi positive with MERS-CoV

The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed that a Filipino nurse from Dammam, Saudi Arabia was tested positive for Middle East Respiratory Syndrome - Coronavirus (MERS-COV).

In a press briefing on Wednesday, Health Secretary Enrique Ona said that two nurses from Saudi have undergone confirmatory test for MERS-COV, and the result turned positive for a 27-year-old female nurse from General Santos City.

She entered the country on Friday via Saudi Airlines SV870, then flew to her hometown General Santos on Sunday via Cebu Pacific flight SJ997.

The other nurse from Bulacan sought medical assistance at Lung Center of the Philippines upon learning of the results of her co-worker. They all tested negative after they were retested.

The DOH is now contacting the 249 passengers of Saudi Airlines and the 143 passengers of Cebu Pacific for testing.

The nurse who tested positive for Mers-COV now in isolation at the Southern Philippines Medical Center. She was asymptomatic upon admission.
