Diokno: Gov't nurses to receive P33,168 salary next year

Government nurses and other civilian personnel will get another round of salary increase next year, according to Department of Budget and Management (DBM) secretary Benjamin Diokno.

Diokno recently appeared in CNN Philippines's segment 'The Source' in which he explained that nurses will get a salary hike of 3%.

"For nurses, again Salary Grade 11, their salary by next year will be P33,168. That's average monthly salary, which is 3 times higher compared to what they get when they employ at private hospitals," said Diokno.

Aside from nurses, other public servants like teachers will also get pay hike across the board.

"By next year, Teacher I which is the entry level, they will be getting something like P27,000 per month."

Diokno previously said during a press briefing in Malacañang that the pay hike is part of the Salary Standardization Law 2016, which was first implemented last year.

"We are now in the second tranche of our four-tranche salary adjustment. As you now, we gave the salary increase last year. And there will be another salary increase this year, both for civilians, military, and police," Diokno said.

The second tranche of salary adjustment for government workers was already included in the 2017’s PHP3.35 trillion national budget.

He however clarified that it would still require congressional approval considering the first tranche was implemented only through Executive Order No. 201 signed by former President Benigno Aquino III in February last year.
